Mission Statement“Helping All Souls to See Jesus”
John 1:45-46 Simply put we have good news for you. Second Baptist Church of Joliet and Vicinity is a people and a place dedicated to you meeting and growing in Jesus. To us, you are as important as your soul is eternal. We want you to see Jesus by experiencing the love of Christ through spirit-filled worship, through Christian education, through contagious committed service and through the ministry of fellowship which includes believing God to meet the needs of the whole man. This invitation and mission goes out to all souls in Joliet, surrounding communities and to every region of the world. Regardless of your past or present circumstances, we believe your experience with the living Christ will transform and/or further enrich your life. The Lord has a special purpose for you now that will culminate in His Kingdom. Let us help you discover Him and His purposes for your life. We invite you to come and see. Wondering About God?Knowing your sins are forgiven and you are ready for heaven is as simple as the following steps:
A. Admit you have sinned..... "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1:8). B. Believe in Jesus..... "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). C. Confess and leave your sin..... "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). You might want to use the following prayer as a guide: Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I'm a sinner, and I'm sorry for my sin. Thank You for dying on the Cross for me. Please forgive me of my sin, and accept me as Your child. I desire to live for You, Jesus. Amen. Congratulations on becoming a part of God's forever family. Obviously this is only a first step. What We BelieveSecond Baptist Church recognizes and accepts the Holy Bible as the divinely inspired record and all sufficient rule of faith and practice. As a Baptist Church, we accept and practice the two ordinances of the Church namely: Baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper as commemorative of the Lord's death and suffering.
We accept the doctrine of the Baptist Church as reflected in the Articles of Faith. Recognizing the value of mutual consent and cooperation, the government of this church is the congregational or democratic form which is vested in the members who comprise it. We believe very strongly that the Church is a special place where all can feel at home. Second Baptist Church is such a place: A Place for Worship. The primary reason we meet together is to focus our attention on God, giving Him our worship and receiving His blessings and inspiration. Each of these occasions is a special time of spiritual refreshment. We hope this is what you experience with us. A Place for Learning. To us, studying the Bible is vital because it not only instructs us intellectually, but also guides us spiritually. We believe and accept it as God's Word to us. A Place for Enrichment. For every person at every age level, we offer a wealth of opportunities which fill the Church calendar. You can be sure that within this large spectrum of activities, there's more than one place where you can be personally enriched. A Place for Friendship. Nothing quite compares to the joy of Christian fellowship. That's why we make it a priority to build lasting bonds between members of our Church family-bonds of genuine commitment to one another. Best of all, this circle of care is ever widening. We'd love for it to include you. A Place for Service. Just as Jesus came "not to be ministered unto, but to minister..." we accept our responsibility to reach out in service to others, both at home and abroad. Second Baptist believes in serving God, the community and the world at large. Our members are involved in all areas of the Baptist witness, from the National and State Conventions, and the local District Association. Our Pastor, Reverend Larry V. Tyler serves as, President of Congress of Lebanon District Association of Baptist Churches in Joliet - May 1995 |
